Missionary Medicine Intensive (MMI)
In this two week course, students will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience to diagnose and treat illness and injury in remote locations. MMI is one of our most popular courses; attended by lay people, nurses and other healthcare providers. Utilizing clearly defined procedural techniques, students will leave with the skills to save lives and bring healing to hurting communities. The course will place special emphasis on tropical illnesses. Recommended for short and long-term missionaries, mission team leaders or indigenous missionaries.
You must be at least 18 years old to attend, able to do college level work, and perform basic algebra. We encourage you to take this class when you know where you will be living and be leaving soon (6 months to 1 year). Accommodations are only for registered students. No prior medical training required!
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation - 68.50 contact hours

As the Director of Missions for Port City Community Church (PC3), Christie Coley was in charge of a short-term medical mission trip to South Sudan.
While preparing, she found exactly what she was looking for in Equip’s Missionary Medicine Intensive (MMI) course—in her words, it was “a reasonably short course that would equip me with practical medical knowledge and skills.”
Christie came to Equip eager to learn, and she left “informed, and also refreshed and renewed spiritually” for the ministry ahead of her. She left for South Sudan soon after the course and shares that the knowledge that she gained helped her to “be more effective in serving to meet physical needs.”
Later, Christie returned with another PC3 team to serve alongside their national partners who, by then, had hired a young man to serve as the village doctor. They did another medical mission and helped set up a clinic and pharmacy for the village.
Not only did this village serve itself by providing much-needed medical care—they also extended this ministry to groups of nomadic Arabic cattle herders who traveled through the area. This medical care furthered their ability to reach these people with the Gospel!
