Introduction to inductive ignition systems
Inductive ignition systems have existed since 1908, developed by Charles Kettering who also developed the first engine-driven generator practice.
The design has been improved Over the years, but the most striking recent development was the introduction of insulation Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT) they have allowed the design of high accuracy, systems of high energy inductive ignition spark.
A single operation is performed by turning on the transistor current to the coil ignition coils primary. This "charge" of energy stores in the circuit of the magnetic coils. The current is muted. As the magnetic field begins to collapse the coil tries to resist causing the drop in voltage in the secondary winding to increase rapidly, the high voltage breaks down the air / fuel mixture in the spark gap allowing a spark to pass, causing the ignition of the fuel / air mixture.
The most important benefit of ignition induction is that the coils are generally more effective than capacitive discharge coils because they can provide longer spark that can ensure complete combustion, especially on burns lean and turbocharged engines. The ability to provide longer ignition is because the induction coils to supply enough energy to pass through the spark gap, the remaining energy of the ignition coil is used to maintain the spark. Capacitive discharge coils release almost all of their energy instantly, thus reducing significantly the amount of energy available to maintain the spark.
With the ignition induction more energy can be delivered to the secondary winding of the coil in a capacitive ignition system. In fact, with the random even out supply current, energy up to five times more can be delivered to the secondary winding of a ignition coil induction coil as a capacitive discharge. Generally, a capacitive discharge system will deliver up to 10 millijoules energy from an inductive ignition system as providing over 50 millijoules energy and potentially more than 100 millijoules. This large difference in the mean energy provided an inductive system can provide spark duration of 2000 microseconds or more in a single spark, compared to 600 microseconds for a capacitive system.
With the ignition induction time required to charge the ignition coil is called the "Dwell". This house can be increased or decreased for different engine applications. If the longer duration spark needed to improve the combustion of lean mixtures or engines with large cylinders the residence time is increased, the seizure of more energy in the primary coil. Residence time is reduced when there is more than sufficient ignition energy to burn the mixture, the decrease will reduce the wear of the candle, thus increasing the life of the candle.
The high energy and long durations Programmable ignition is a considerable advantage because they provide better illumination of thin or non-homogeneous air / fuel mixtures.
